Who wants to go on a field trip?

Hi, we're Collin and Kate and we're going to be taking you on a field trip!

This blog is for us to bring our passion, scientific research, to you, an interested but not entirely science minded individual! That isn't to say that this blog isn't for science minded people like ourselves. Our goal is to bring you to the field with us and show you whats going on in various realms of the scientific world! We avoid jargon, but present accurate and reliable knowledge. So sit back, relax, and get ready for a mind blowing adventure!

About Kate

Kate is an Environmental Educator working in Los Angeles where, yes (gasp!), there is nature if you know where to look for it. Kate graduated from Wesleyan with a BA in Biology and studied abroad in Costa Rica, where she lived at field stations catching and identifying bugs and doing field research on everything from mating centipedes to mycorrhizal associations in Pentaclethra macroloba! Currently, she brings reptiles to kids classrooms and spends more time than she'd care to admit pretending to be a bee.

Kate enjoys explaining complex scientific concepts through simple analogies, gets just a little too excited at science museums, and is an amateur bug nerd. Obviously she has nothing on Collin.

About Collin

Collin is currently a PhD student of entomology at Texas A&M University in College Station, TX with a BA and an MA, both in biology, from Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT. His current studies are focusing on the ecological effects of variation in foraging behavior in the red imported fire ant, Solenopsis invicta.

While ecology and biology are Collin's favorite scientific subjects, he also shares a love for just about anything cool. He also is passionate about imparting scientific knowledge to others. Collin has TA-ed at Wesleyan (Introductory Biology), Texas A&M (General Entomology), and in the Cheshire Correctional Institute in Cheshire, CT (Drugs and Diseases, a chemistry course focusing on real world issues). On top of teaching, Collin is active in many scientific outreach programs such as an entomology learning program and insect zoo geared toward 1st through 4th grade students.
